ESCA Division 7, Match 2: Leith Fab 4 Vs Peebles CCC, Saturday 9th May 2026.

Last Saturday Peebles County travelled to Leith Links to play Leith Franklin lV. Skipper Caddick lost the toss and County were invited to bat under dark clouds and a stiff breeze.

Last Saturday Peebles County travelled to Leith Links to play Leith Franklin lV. Skipper Caddick lost the toss and County were invited to bat under dark clouds and a stiff breeze. Kevin Bunten (103) countinued last season’s tremendous form with much clean hitting and a 50 opening partnership with Caddick (9). Adam Hayward (26) played some delightful shots and Fin Burns (29*) continued this season’s fine form. Mehul Prajapati (2) and Aarad Ajmal (0) went quickly before Niall Burns ran himself out in his role of tortoise to the hare, son Finlay. Rev added 6 as County finished 40 overs on 215-7.

Cricket banter at tea was followed by Prajapati (2-27) and Finlay Burns (1-29) opening well despite some early hitting by Leith. Hayward (1-16) bowled with his usual control and it was good to see Ajmal (2-9) back in tandem with Burns senior (4-14) as Leith were bowled out for 96 and a win for County by 119 runs. An excellent fielding display saw catches snaffled by Finn Burns (only just!) and a real steepler superbly judged by Hayward. Dritsas and Rev  showed a range of fielding techniques as Pace again kept tidily.  Caddick caught a couple including another “worldie” diving at slip.

Player of the match undoubtedly to Bunten (well played K) with a champagne moment to Caddick. Thank you to Leith for a sporting game as County hit the road home after an enjoyable afternoon of Sunshine (and cold) on Leith.
