ESCA Division 7, Match 2: Peebles CCC Vs Carlton 5, Saturday 2nd May 2026.
Last Saturday Peebles welcomed Carlton 5 to Whitestone Park after a week of sunshine and a night of rain. Skipper Pete Caddick lost his first toss of the season as County were asked to bat first.
Kevin Bunten (36) struck the ball very well and Caddick (49) slightly less often with a solid opening partnership of 64 providing an excellent start. Adam Hayes (8) added a few before Finlay Burns (30*) made his top score striking the ball cleanly. Enter Mehul Prajapati (42) and a few sixes to speed things along and a partnership of 71. Ian Revell (1) steadied things as County reached 191 for 4 wickets off 40 overs. Both teams enjoyed cricket banter over a delightful tea enjoyed by both teams before County’s huddle where the skipper welcomed Jay Singh and Chris Bird both on debut.
Prajapati (1-19) and Fin Burns ( 1-34) bowled well with an early break through before Jay (3-10) got into a groove. Winter had provided a good break but it wasn’t long until Niall Burns (4-19) was reminding us of his slow away swingers. Chris Dixon (0-0) also turned his arm over. Julian Pace (2catches) kept wicket very tidily and Hayes also snaffled a couple. Singh and Bunten also took catches , Chris Bird threw in to force a run out and Caddick took a “worldy” catch at first slip.
The champagne moment to Prajapati for his six hitting but undoubtedly player of the match to Finlay Burns for his all round performance including a catch. Carlton all out for 96 and a win for County by 95 runs.
Great to see Carlton bring down many juniors and both teams playing in an extremely sporting and encouraging afternoon. Peebles County Cricket Club play in ESCA div 7 with regular Saturday and mid week games and training, together with junior and Ladies sections. All details on social media. As County prepare to visit the “Sunshine on Leith “ next Saturday a final thank you to all involved especially our guests and simply a “grand day out at the cricket”. Thank you and go well Carlton.
