ESCA Division 8, Match 9: Tranent & PV 5 Vs Peebles CCC, Saturday 21st June 2025.
On Beltane Saturday Peebles County CC travelled to Meadowmill Sports Centre, East Lothian to play table topping Tranent and Preston Village 5 in ESCA div 8.
Skipper Caddick actually won the toss and joined Gary Walsh (4) to open the batting under cloudier skies than the hills of Peebles. Sravan Parakkattu (1) joined the skipper moving the total on to 30 before ‘Whistle’ (6) continued to keep the score moving. Ian Revell (13) added a few before Aarad Ajmal( 19*) and Mehul Prajapati (7) provided the entertainment with Aarad hitting his highest score and both slowly learning how to run between the wickets. James Boyle (0) was another run out victim with Caddick (51) departing before the fun started. County ended on 123 – 7 and Tranent bowled tidily justifying their high league position.
Although the away team, County shared plenty of food at the break before Prajapati (0-26) and Parakkattu ( 1-55) began proceedings. County were unfortunate to field in damp conditions with the opening bowlers doing well with a slippery ball and wicket. After a quick Tranent start, County turned to leading wicket taker Ajmal (0-26) and Older wicket taker, Niall Burns ( 2-15) and true to form, Burnsie struck with a quick couple of wickets meaning the openers came back to stem the runs. In the end Tranent knocked off the total at 125-3 and remained top of the league. Gary Walsh kept wicket tidily and Larry Dritsas and Finlay Burns chased hard in the field.
A thank you to Tranent for hosting and both sets of players performing in a sporting manner. Champagne moment shared by Mehul and Aarad for a steep learning curve of quick runs and running! Player of the match to Caddick for runs and a thought for Craig Entwhistle as a steepling catch landed beside him after nearly colliding with the space station.
County are sponsored by Sully’s Fish, Chips, Pizzeria with senior, junior and Ladies training informed on social media. Halfway through the season sees Peebles in a very respectful fifth position with Ajmal and Burns in top ten league bowlers, Kevin Bunten and Caddick top ten batters and Sravan Parakkattu top ten in batting, bowling and fielding.
The club are well up the table for tea, refreshments and sportsmanship! County now prepare for the second half with a home tie to Bass Rock on Saturday.
