ESCA Division 8, Match 6: Peebles CCC Vs Royal High Corstorphine 4, Saturday 31st May 2025.

Last Saturday Peebles County welcomed Royal High Corstorphine 4 to Whitestone Park looking to consolidate their position of second in ESCA division eight.
With cloudy skies and the threat of rain later, RHC lost the toss as PCCC skipper Caddick took County out to field. A short encouraging team talk welcomed Finlay Burns before Mehul Prajapati (2-27) and Sravan Parakkattu (4-13) continued this season’s fine opening bowling. RHC were 38-3 before Niall Burns (2-20) and Aarad Ajmal (1-23) “turned the screw” and continued their outstanding partnership bowling. In the field Thorsten Schutte took two tidy catches behind the stumps and Caddick a sharpe one at first slip. Parakkattu returned to take two more wickets as Adam Hayward (0-19) mixed it up from the other end. Burns junior (0-3) showed us why he remains the best in the family. After 40 overs RHC were 111-9 as tea was taken outside despite darkening skies. County bowled and fielded well, feeling that 111 put them on top at the break but still with work to do.
Kevin Bunten (11) and Pete Caddick (44*) began with a stand of 29 runs before Parakkattu (37) struck his usual clean blows including a champagne moment pull over mid wicket that may still be rolling! Schutte (0*) joined Caddick striking a boundary to get PCCC to 115-2 off 23 overs and victory by 8 wickets. In the field Adam Hayes and Pete Walker chased and threw with energy as County and RHC played out a sporting game in the spirit of cricket as requested by the skipper. Player of the match to Parakkattu with a leading all round performance seeing County move to the top of the table for the first time in a good number of years.
Peebles CCC are delighted to be sponsored by Sully’s Fish, Chips and Pizzeria with weekly senior, ladies and junior training advertised on our social media. Lofty heights at the table top and a visit to Westquarter and Redding on Saturday. Thanks to RHC and a very satisfying performance by County.
