ESCA Division 8, Match 12: Peebles CCC Vs Dunfermline & Carnegie 3, Saturday 12th July 2025.
Last Saturday Peebles County welcomed Dunfermline and Carnegie 3 to Whitestone Park in ESCA division 8.
County won the toss and went out to bat on one of the hottest days of the year agreeing to drinks every ten overs. Kevin Bunten hit a quick fire 61 including four sixes and an opening partnership of 96 with Pete Caddick (23) saw them make an excellent start. Sravan Parakkattu (2) and Chris Richardson (3) added more runs and Craig Entwhistle (9) and Zeeshan Gohar (1) all got in and out. Niall Burns (11) held the lower order together before Dunfermline picked up four wickets in an over. Fin Burns (0), Adam Hayes (0) and James Boyle (0) all came and went quickly before Mehul Prajapati (4*) helped add a few for the last wicket. County all out for 138 and not quite using up all the overs.
Tea was taken outside in the sunshine with some cricket banter, test match checking and a delightful Victoria sponge donated. A brief team talk encouraged county to continue the recent tight bowling which they did with Parakkattu (1-16) and Prajapati ( 0-15) keeping the score down. Finlay Burns (3-42) then produced an excellent bowling spell as old timer Niall Burns (4-17) made it an outstanding family partnership. Caddick (0-30) and James Boyle (0-2) turned their arms over before Bunten (1-12) took the game down to the wire. Dunfermline had been 47-6 and continued to lose wickets down to 122-9.
The final partnership was nearly broken on numerous occasions and Dunfermline managed to sneak over the line at 139-9 winning by one wicket. Excellent catches to Gohar, Bunten and somehow Burns (sen).
Player of the match to Bunten for an outstanding innings, making the game look easier, with a champagne moment going to Parakkattu for a superb reflex caught and bowled. A game played in good cricket spirit going down to the wire with County disappointed with the narrow margin.
