ESCA Division 8, Match 11: Leith FAB 4 Vs Peebles CCC, Saturday 5th July 2025.
Last Saturday Peebles County travelled to Leith Links to play Leith FAB 4. Leith Links is a very historical ground with two pitches and a footpath of pedestrians with a full range of cricket knowledge!
Skipper Caddick finally won the toss and County went out to bat on an extremely breezy and sunny Edinburgh afternoon. Enter Craig Entwhistle (74) producing his top score with a run a ball innings and opening stand of 42 with Caddick (7). Sravan Parakkattu (4) and Adam Hayes (3) kept the score moving. Nick Jenkins (0) perished quickly before Niall Burns (14) strode out and was joined by Finlay Burns (18*). Fin showed his class dominating the Burns family partnership and hitting his top score. Pete Walker (0) and Aarad Ajmal (2) came and went, as did Mehul Prajapati (5). Good to see Larry Dritsas (1) finally get a knock as County finished 40 overs on 160 all out.
Both teams shared an enjoyable tea, out of the wind, and surrounded by many club photos of cricket in Edinburgh. Caddick and Burns rallied the troops encouraging them to continue recent tight bowling and wicket taking. Prajapati (1-33) continued with his tight lines and Parakkattu (1-17) threatened with almost every ball. Leith were quickly 48-4 as Ajmal (2-33) and Burns senior ( 8-4-5-1) kept up the pressure. Caddick (3-24) finished off the innings as Leith closed all out for 120 and a win by 40 runs.
Walker and Niall Burns took catches with the champagne moments going to Parakkattu with two excellent runs outs with direct hits. Player of the match to Entwhistle for a career best, match winning score.
Peebles are sponsored by Sully’s Fish, chips, pizzeria with regular weekly training at Whitestone Park advertised on social media for seniors, ladies and juniors. Thank you to Leith FAB for hosting on an extremely windy afternoon and a game played in an excellent sporting manner by all.
At this stage County move up to second place in ESCA division 8. County left the ‘sunshine on Leith’ heading back over the hills to prepare for Saturday’s home game against Dunfermline.
