Captain’s Report 10

ESCA Division 8, Match 10: Peebles CCC Vs Bass Rock 2, Saturday 28th June 2025.

Last Saturday Peebles County CC welcomed Bass Rock 2 from North Berwick for the start of the second half of division 8.

The day started damp but with a clear forecast skipper  Caddick again lost the coin toss and County went out to field. The well establish opening pair of Mehul Prajapati (0-2) and Sravan Parakkattu (2-10) reduced “The Rock” to 7-2 wickets with both showing excellent consistency, and Julian Pace keeping wicket tidily in the process. Adam Hayward (2-4) kept the pressure up and, the more established, Niall Burns (3-7) then turned the screw as Bass Rock lost more wickets. Finlay Burns (2-4) showed who takes the wickets at home and Bass Rock were dismissed for just 30 runs. Chris Richardson took a sharp catch at his toes and Thorsten Schutte sprang to life catching at square leg.

Ian Revell chased, threw and encouraged also at square leg but the champagne moment went to Parakkattu throwing the stumps down for a run out closely followed by Prajapati just clinging on to a catch dipping in front of him. With a low total Kevin Bunten (15) and Thorsten Schutte (5*) struck a swift 17 before Richardson (8*) helped knock the runs off.

Just a debatable run out lost County a wicket with umpire Burns (senior) off to book an optician’s appointment! So a win by 9 wickets seeing County consolidate the top half of the division.

Peebles CC are sponsored by Sully’s fish, chips, pizzeria with senior, ladies and junior training information on social media platforms. Tea was taken after the game amidst banter from the match with a big thank you to Bass Rock bringing a few juniors and all 22 players enjoying a sporting game and a delightful tea.

Next Saturday sees county travelling to Leith Links as they bid farewell to BR making their “escape” back to “The Rock”.
