ESCA Division 8, Match 4: Peebles CCC Vs Marchmont 4, Saturday 17th May 2025
Last Saturday Peebles County welcomed Marchmont 4 to Whitestone Park on a glorious sunny afternoon in the ESCA div 8.
Skipper Caddick (8) won the toss and a partnership of 37 dominated by Kevin Bunten (112) set a fast start. Sravan Parakkattu (1) and Chris Richardson (4) enjoyed brief stays at the wicket together with Ian Revell (0). Enter Niall Burns (24) and another partnership of 57 as Bunten closed in on an outstanding maiden century for Peebles. Burns played his part with some clean hitting (and missing ) at times. Gary Walsh (3), Pete Walker (3) and Aarad Ajmal (0) helped keep the score moving with Lawrence Dritsas (0) dismissed in the final 40th over leaving Mehul Prajapati on 1*. County ended on 170 runs at the break as both teams applauded Bunten off the field for a tremendous innings including 16 fours and 2 sixes. Well played sir.
Outside, tea was enjoyed with a few welcome spectators before the skipper’s team talk to focus on keeping the game tight and using a helpful seaming surface. Factor 50 applied and refreshment taken before Prajapati (0-26) was unlucky not to pick up wickets, bowling a good line and Parakkattu (3-26) made important break throughs leaving Marchmont 45-5 after 11 overs. County kept up the momentum as Ajmal (3-16) continued this season’s fine form as top ESCA division 8 wicket taker and old timer Burns (3-16 also) took the last three wickets (!).
Marchmont all out for 86 and a Peebles win by 84 runs. The champagne moment shared between Sravan and Mehul missing a catch with shared juggling before deciding on a run out dismissal instead! Player of the match to Bunten for an outstanding performance with the bat and also picking up three catches. Tidy wicket keeping by Walsh including a couple of catches.
Peebles County are delighted to be sponsored by Sully’s Fish, Chips and Pizzeria with senior, junior and ladies training at the park advertised on social media. After a mid – week T20 win over Melrose, County have won four out of five games with significant performances from new members and prepare to travel to Edinburgh taking on Watsonians on Saturday.
