Captain’s Report 4

ESCA Division 7, Match 4 Tranent and Preston vs Peebles CCC, Saturday 18th May 2024.

Under sunny skies last Saturday Peebles County travelled to East Lothian to take on table topping Tranent and Preston Village in ESCA div 7.

Skipper Caddick lost the toss as County went out to field after applying the factor fifty. Niall Burns (1-30) and Gary Walsh (2-29) started well with Nick Jenkins (0-11) and Alfie Pace (0-58) taking over. TPV put on a second wicket partnership of 135 before Aarad Ajmal (4-35) and Finlay Burns (2-20) pulled Peebles back into the match as TPV finished on 200 after the allotted 40 overs.

Despite a few dropped catches County chased hard in the field and kept the score tidy on a fast scoring outfield. Julian Pace turned back the clock with a couple of catches and the champagne fielding moment to Burns seemingly moving the clock forward diving down when the ball went upwards and vice versa!

After tea Pace junior (13) struck the ball cleanly after Burns (0)  and Walsh (1) quickly departed. Caddick (24) stuck around continuing his rehab and Zeeshan Gohar (0) mis read a quick single. The usually immovable Jenkins (1) perished quickly before County player of the match Ajmal (8) struck a few blows. Good to see Burns jr (0) playing again and outplaying the old man! Pete Walker (3) and Lawrence Dritsas (1) kept things ticking. The innings closed with J Pace incredibly being run out with a mis communication sprint single as County finished on 68.

Well played TPV with everyone having an enjoyable and sporting game. County are delighted to be sponsored by Beech Joinery and Harrison’s Ford. Senior training continues at the Gytes on Wednesdays at 630pm with juniors on Fridays. (See details on Peeblescricket.com).

Last Friday saw a delightful junior training session in the sun with coaches Dave Thomson and Adam Hayward before an enjoyable junior picnic tea and a big shout out to many parents joining in to help out coaching and food prepping before eating! As the sun set County hit the road over the hills tae take on Drummond Trinity on Saturday.
