Captain’s Report 2

ESCA Division 7 Match 2: Old Contemptibles vs Peebles CCC, Saturday May 4th 2024.

Last Saturday Peebles County travelled to the scenic Inverleith Park, Edinburgh on a damp afternoon hoping to get a game in. Skipper Caddick won the toss(twice now!) and elected to bowl first against Old Contemptibles, on a green and wet pitch.

Skipper Pete Caddick wins the toss

Niall Burns (6- 11) was in his element today twice on a hat-trick and well supported by Gary Walsh (0-21) both doing well with the wet ball. Zeeshan Gohar (0-19) and Nick Jenkins (1-28) maintained the pressure as County worked their way through OC’S batting. After drinks Caddick (1-15) swapped the pads with Walsh and together with Chris Richardson (2-11) finished off the OC innings at 110 all out and an excellent performance in the field.

Good catches by Caddick, Walsh and Burns and a tidy fielding display. After tea County sent in Richardson (3) and Caddick (2) to chase down the total. Walsh (2) and Gohar (3) followed as County struggled with the low bounce at Inverleith. Our hero Burns (12) then stuck around before Pete Walker (0) was another struggling with the wicket. Suddenly County turned the clock back as Alan Caddick (16) played himself in before striking three boundaries showing everyone, including the skipper, the way.

Captain Pete Caddick, and former Captain Niall Burns, inspect the wicket.

Lawrence Dritsas (0) and Aarad Ajmal (0) fell as County came up short on this occasion. Player of the match undoubtedly to Burns and champagne moment to Caddick junior for the top score and  swashbuckling boundaries. Old Contemptibles played the game in a very  sporting manner with a few old friends in the opposition. Well played.

County disappeared over the hills already making preparations to host Stewart’s Melville on Saturday.

County are sponsored by Harrison’s garage and Beech Joinery. Senior training continues on Wednesdays at the Gytes (630 pm)  with juniors on Fridays (P7 upwards) from 430 pm.
